Our Mission
The Center for Resilience is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to improving the resilience of industrial systems and the environments in which they operate. In a nutshell, we believe that short-term risk management and long-term sustainability are two ends of the enterprise resilience continuum.
To pursue our mission, we have developed a powerful network of engineers, scientists, and business scholars at The Ohio State University and collaborating institutions, leveraging over $20 million in ongoing research programs.
Collaboration
We refuse to live in an ivory tower. Our work is closely coordinated with external sponsors and collaborators to assure relevance and realism. We are guided by an External Advisory Board, including thought leaders from government agencies, non-profit organizations, and major companies in the chemical, automotive, electric power, retailing, and other industries.
Interdisciplinary teamwork is essential to our programs. While we
are based in the College of Engineering, we collaborate with colleagues
in many other scientific and management disciplines, including the Ohio BioProducts Innovation Center.
We are active contributors nationally and
internationally to the multi-faceted field of sustainable systems
design and analysis.
New Tools
We are developing a new generation of analysis and decision tools,
including:
| SCRAM™ | Supply chain resilience assessment & management |
| Eco-Flow™ | Benefit optimization for byproduct synergy networks |
| Eco-LCA™ | Life cycle analysis for “embedded” natural capital |
| T21-Ohio | Sustainability policy analysis using system dynamics |
These tools are made available to Center for Resilience sponsors, and they are currently being applied and field tested by a number of early adopters. The tools are continually enhanced through grants and research contracts.
